I represent you as an At-Large member of the Virginia Beach School Board. I am a life-long resident of Hampton Roads and a product of Virginia public schools. I graduated from James Madison University and George Mason University School of Law. I have lived in Virginia Beach for 18 years and my wife and I have two children currently enrolled in Virginia Beach City Public Schools. On November 2, I will be seeking election to retain my seat on the School Board.

What does Scott Seery believe?

I believe children are our greatest resource! They are the leaders, business owners and teachers of tomorrow. As a husband and father, family is my first priority. I believe that being an involved parent while helping our children receive a quality education is the best way to give them an opportunity for a successful future. I know that a good education derives from quality teachers who teach because they care about their students. Growing up, I was fortunate to have some incredible teachers who pushed me and challenged me daily because they cared enough to see potential in me that I didn’t know existed. Their efforts have led to my success. As a member of the Virginia Beach School Board, I will ensure the children in our community have a better opportunity for success than I did, as they become 21st century workers and productive citizens.

What is Scott Seery’s experience?

I am an attorney with the law firm of Faggert & Frieden, P.C., in Virginia Beach and have over 20 years of legal experience in commercial real estate and business transactions, with a focus on project financing. I have represented a diverse group of individuals and businesses in transactions throughout the United States. Over the years, I have realized that being a good attorney is not about just knowing the law, but it is about being able to communicate and collaborate with people from diverse backgrounds and with differing agendas and finding their common goals. I focus on listening and understanding each side’s perspective, then using that perspective to find common ground for a mutual resolution.

How is Scott Seery involved in the community?

Over the years I have maintained a commitment of being involved in our community. My perspective on listening, communicating and collaborating has been beneficial in working with my neighbors as a leader of my neighborhood civic league; in helping my family and friends as a PTA volunteer and a soccer coach; and in making a difference in education as an active member of the Virginia Beach Education Foundation. My ability to work and collaborate with my colleagues on the School Board and my willingness to listen and understand our constituents will make me an effective School Board member for years to come!

I recognize the importance of maintaining the quality of our children’s education during these tough economic times. My goal is to represent you and to effectively and economically manage your tax dollars while providing the best possible learning environment for our students. My education and experience will be useful in analyzing, resolving and effecting policies for our School System, and for managing the School System’s finances. I will strive to work with and for our community to reach a common goal of what is in the best interests of our students, teachers and administrators. As an attorney, I have experience in dealing with businesses and developers of all sizes that have been hit hard by the recession. I have assisted them in cutting costs without cutting quality so that they may survive and be successful in the future. Help me do the same for our children and their education!
